Press Release: Nelio, Zabala & Chazme – Hatchikian Gallery

PROJECTIONS: A Group Show of Nelio, Zabala & Chazme – Hatchikian Gallery x Quai 36

12 Jan 2023 – 1 Apr 2023

Hatchikian Gallery and the Art Production House Quai 36 renew their artistic collaboration to present “Projections”, a Group Show bringing together three artists whose work alternates in situ mural creations and pictorial research in the studio: Chazme, Nelio and Zabala. The exhibition will be held from January 12 to April 1, 2023 at Espace Quai 36 within the Fiminco Foundation in Romainville, a new cultural center in eastern Paris in full effervescence.

Audrey Hatchikian and Julie Frydman combine their curatorial perspectives to design an exhibition that highlights the resonance of the questions raised by these three artists. How do the contextualities of in situ creations in urban spaces and compositions on canvas in the studio confront each other in the creative impulse and inspirations of Chazme, Nelio and Zabala? How do these artists decompartmentalize pictorial practices and the categorical landscape of art movements to take the viewer to new horizons, going beyond the oppositions between figuration and abstraction, between formal research and narrative purpose?

Each, with its aesthetic singularity, composes with the contemporary questioning of the place of Man and of human becoming in a disenchanted world whose meaning seems to dissolve. Art carries an inexhaustible vitality: to create is a desire to make life possible.

Hatchikian Gallery and Quai 36 will have the pleasure of inaugurating “Projections”, Group Show by Chazme, Nelio and Zabala, by welcoming the public for a vernissage in the presence of the artists on January 12 at Espace Quai 36. The dialogue between the works of these three artists will thus be able to open up to the singular gaze that each has on the imperceptible knots that weave between their worlds a new and exciting artistic conversation.
