Tokyo’s graffiti scene has a new and unmistakably bizarre icon: a small, kawaii phallic character that has been quietly multiplying across the city’s walls, shutters, and underpasses. What began as a few curious sightings in Koenji, west Tokyo, has now spread to nearly every neighborhood, from Shibuya and Shinjuku to even the pristine streets of Ginza, where graffiti of any kind is a rare rebellion.
