Stikman – Life in the Concrete Jungle
Who is stikman’s incognito creator? Fans and collectors have wondered for decades. Very little is known. UP Magazine has some answers for you in case you’ve been wondering about the artist yourself! On Saturday, November 18th – stikman is having a pop-up show at Skewville in Bushwick, Brooklyn. And on Sunday Novmeber 19th, there will be a stikman Scavenger hunt, hosted by Shooters Street Art!

DAIN: The Eye of the Artist
DAIN, whose work was showing through September at Avant Gallery in New York’s Hudson Yards before moving to Avant’s Miami location in October, is a second generation New York street artist whose practice draws largely on a pair of divergent influences: the chaos and grit of 1980s New York City and the lost urbanity of golden age Hollywood. Commercialism, luxury branding, fashion and urban culture are also part of the mix. But it is the brightly colored, dripping painted circles around one eye of his central subjects that make DAIN’s work at once arresting and instantly recognizable.

Press Release: Raise the Level by Shepard Fairey at STRAAT Museum
A public-space mural by the internationally influential American street artist and activist Shepard Fairey now adorns the STRAAT Museum in Amsterdam. In the gigantic work (14 x 14.8 m | 46 feet high and 48.5 feet wide) Raise the Level on the museum’s impressive side wall, the artist calls attention to improving the dire state of our planet and makes an appeal for us to work together to do so. With this gift to Amsterdam, Fairey sends a message of hope: the great challenges facing the world call for harmony and connection. For this mural, the street artist – world famous for his Barack Obama HOPE campaign poster – collaborated with Amsterdam graffiti legend Niels ‘Shoe’ Meulman. In addition to the mural, Fairey has created a work for the permanent STRAAT collection. From 13 August to 1 October 2023, the major solo exhibition Printed Matters: Raise the Level, featuring more than 130 artworks, will also be on display at the STRAAT Gallery.

The show will run from April 19th to May 19th, with an opening reception on Wednesday April 19th from 6pm to 11pm. “High Spirits” will showcase a diverse range of art pieces from emerging & established artists in the New York City area across a variety of mediums, including paintings and mixed media pieces, while exploring themes related to cannabis culture, nature, and spirituality.
