MODVIXEN is an ongoing conceptual photography project about the modern-day vixen. The purpose of this project is to empower women to express their confidence, personality, and sexuality free of fear and to challenge conservative stereotypes within society that objectify and minimize women. These images portray women that embody both the fierce soul of a vixen and the elegance of a lady.
Project 01 is an editorial narrative based on a muse and good friend of mine, Josie Woods. Josie captures the essence of MODVIXEN because she stands her ground. She is feminine, dominant, confident, and unapologetic as such. Despite struggling to be taken seriously in the art world, she continues to show up as herself.
As an artist, I aim to pushback against the contrived misconceptions of the media’s male gaze, particularly those that limit the potential of women. We are intellectuals just as we are sexual beings – it’s all about perception. The assumptions that people have of us are beyond our power to control, yet we have our own freedom of expression. If all women could dress without obligation to be perceived a certain way, we’d gain power back over ourselves.
